Dave Jowett was responsible for starting one of the very first "Swapmeets" as they were then known, over 30 years ago. It was held in the local pub of the village of Lambley near Nottingham.
The idea in those days was for fellow collectors to meet and exchange toys without neccessarily money changing hands.
Dave recalls that the evening was such a success that the pub was jammed with people, and the roads outside ans surrounding area were chaotic. Police had to be called to restore some sense of normality to the area.
Over the next few years the Nottingham evening toy fair changed venues several times as it becames established as a leading fair of it's type in the country.
In 1990 Dave joined forces with John Webb to promote a major fair in the centre of the country. This was Donington Park. With tremendous support from the Trade and collecting public the sucess was incredible and further venues were sought.
The rest is history. The only change being John Webb leaving the partnership to continue with his own fairs and Dave carrying on with the support of his family and a loyal band of helpers. |
